First Church ActivitiesServiceHeart’s Willing Club welcomes all women to work together on projects benefiting the church; meetings are held the 4th Wednesday of each month. Prayer Shawl Ministry gathers for knitting and crocheting on alternate Thursday evenings. Shawls are blessed and then delivered to those in need of comfort. “For the Beauty of the Earth” Gardening Group tends the ornamental gardens and meets occasionally after worship to plan projects. The Arts: Musical, Visual and TheatricalAdult Choir rehearses on Thursday evenings beginning at 7:30 pm. Junior and Youth Choirs practice on Sunday mornings following the worship. Sacred Art Group explores faith through the arts and meets on Tuesdays at 6 pm. Growing in FaithVacation Bible School is held one week during the summer; children learn about their faith using Bible stories, games, crafts, and songs. Bible studies and book discussions occur at various times. Current offerings are described in the newsletter, The Messenger. Outreach MinistriesLoaves and Fishes is a soup kitchen located in Springfield. First Church helpers prepare, deliver, and serve the evening meal on the second Monday of each month. Open Pantry distributes food locally. On the third Sunday of each month nonperishable foods are collected in baskets located in the Narthex. CROP Walk occurs annually; sponsored walkers raise funds to help relieve hunger. Nomads of Hope does mission projects in other communities during the summer. There are opportunties for both teeneagers and adults to travel and serve. Volunteers help with construction, providing food, and in many other ways. Please email volunteer@habitatspringfield.org Annual Thanksgiving Dinner is open to all in the community with no charge. Volunteers prepare and serve a traditional Thanksgiving meal. Angelfood Ministries is a non-profit, non-denominational organization dedicated to providing grocery relief to anyone who needs it throughout the United States. First Church is now a Host site and will be distributing food once every month. All activities welcome new participants!
