Prayer Shawl Ministry

The Prayer Shawl Ministry group first came into being as an inspiration of a few members of the Hearts Willing Club. It has grown into a ministry open to all - to women and men, to youngsters and "oldsters" - to anyone who likes to knit or crochet (or would like to learn) and to offer a blessing to others in need with the warmth and comfort of a hand-made shawl.

The group gathers in Fellowship Hall at First Church on the 1st and 3rd Thursday evenings every month, from 6:30 to 8pm, year-round, where we knit or crochet, chit-chat, laugh, offer opinions and help to each other, and bless each completed shawl in prayer before it is set-aside for future delivery to someone in need.

The shawls vary from intricate designs to simple cuddly wrappers, suitable for men, women and/or children.  Over the years, the many recipients of these shawls have found peace and comfort from their gifts, and the crafters have enjoyed many hours of fellowship and fulfillment in the creation of these gifts of warmth and love.

Anyone who enjoys knitting or crocheting, or would like to learn, is welcome to be part of this ministry.  Shawls may be worked on at home and/or at our gatherings.  Anyone who cannot attend our meetings may choose to create a shawl at home and give it to the group for a blessing and delivery to someone in need.

Yarn and needles are available for those who want to learn to knit or crochet. If you would like a prayer shawl for any reason, please contact Jane Roberts or Donna Okscin. We can deliver a shawl locally, if needed.
